We are looking to recruit a new Trustee to help guide and govern our Wild About Wakefield project. We’re looking for a candidate who has a good knowledge of Wakefield, its people, geography, challenges and opportunities and someone who can help us to develop our offering in the district.

Key roles

  • To represent the interests of our ‘Wild about Wakefield’ project on our board of Trustees
  • To represent the organisation at appropriate Wakefield-based events, meetings or functions
  • To act as a spokesperson for the organisation where appropriate, usually on Wakefield matters
  • To consult with the Wakefield Project officer and Chief Officer on matters relating to the Wakefield project
  • To play a full part in trustee decisions relating to the over-arching functions of the charity, including Strategy, Governance, Finance, HR, Health and Safety, Safeguarding and other issues as decided by the board
  • To attend and be a member of other committees or working groups when appropriate

What are we looking for?

  • A good knowledge of Wakefield, its people, geography, challenges and opportunities
  • Commitment to the organisation
  • Integrity, strategic vision and good/independent judgement
  • A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties as Wakefield trustee
  • Ability to take decisions for the overall good of the organisation
  • Good, independent judgement
  • Good communication skills
  • Tact and diplomacy
  • Willingness to speak one’s mind and listen to the views of others
  • An ability to work effectively as a member of a team

What difference will you make?

Our ‘Wild about Wakefield’ project is an important and successful recent extension of our work. Feedback from people within Wakefield District has been superb. We are keen that the project flourishes and becomes financially sustainable into the future. For that we have identified the need for a Wakefield Trustee to reflect the interests of the project at Board level.

What’s in it for you?

The role would provide the opportunity to take a fledgling project and help to place it on a  permanent footing within Wakefield. You would be working with an inspiring team of trustees, staff and volunteers and benefiting some of the most vulnerable people in society to genuinely improve the quality of their lives.

We estimate the role will involve up to five hours of work per month, mainly home based with visits to the charity’s base at Thornes Park and attendance at full trustee meetings every two months in Harrogate.

For an informal chat about the role with David Shaftoe, Open Country Chief Officer, call 07875 288605.
