With the summer holidays in full swing, it’s the perfect time to explore the countryside with Open Country’s free ‘breakfree’ packs.
They offer inspiration and guidance on accessible places to walk, wheel, stroll or cycle, and the Harrogate-based charity has launched three new ones for 2026, covering trails in Teesside, Nidderdale and Barnsley.
The packs have been developed with wheelchair users in mind, but they also support anyone who might struggle with exercise, limited mobility – and even families with pushchairs.
Each trail features clear, colour maps for each location, with all the information needed to help plan a trip out – from slopes and surfaces, to playgrounds, steps. accessible loos and refreshment stops.
Other packs available include Harrogate District, 2 York ones, Selby, Wakefield, Burley in Wharfedale.
You can download some packs here www.opencountry.org.uk or we can post/deliver packs to organisations, community centres, supported living venues etc.
