New opportunities for Barnsley’s folk!

Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund “Know Your Neighbourhood”, Open Country are excited to be able to launch a new outreach project in Barnsley! To help us organise and run a range of countryside-based activities and build up the profile of the charity in South Yorkshire, we are now recruiting a part-time Barnsley Countryside Activities Officer.

The successful applicant will bring Open Country’s countryside activity programme to Barnsley. You will sit within our small Wakefield team sharing an office space near Horbury, whilst developing two or three regular countryside activities for the disabled people of Barnsley to take part in.

You must be a team player with a great capacity for personal creativity and flair. You would have responsibility for developing our Barnsley offer, which might include adapted cycling, weekday walking, wheelchair outings, conservation projects, access improvement work and adventure sports. You will also be responsible for volunteer management on the activities. The role is mostly hands-on-get-stuck-in activity delivery, with a modest office allowance time to allow for project development and admin.

You will be working alongside adults with different disabilities including learning, physical and sensory impairment. You will be out in all weathers, in all manner of countryside settings. There would normally be a need to work at least one full weekend each month, plus potentially evening work in the summer. We can (we hope!) guarantee you will find the work fun, respected and rewarding.

The job includes minibus (and occasionally trailer) driving. Thus, it is extremely desirable that candidates have a D1 + E entitlement. Your job will involve some administrative duties, so familiarity with computers is also desirable.

The role would suit a countryside, recreation or disability professional who is caring, energetic, hard-working and able to work unsupervised.

To find out more, give Wakefield Project Officer Ella Dixon a call for an informal chat on 07426 716677.  The full job information can be downloaded HERE .

To apply for this role please email your CV along with a covering letter explaining why you are a fit for our team, to:- wakefield@opencountry.org.uk. The deadline for applications is Monday 15th May 2023 at 5pm.

Best of luck, we looking forward to hearing from you.
